Research: Vernacular Typography

I have found it hard to find ‘vernacular typography’. Some of the examples are simple but effective like the typical fairground font used for the fun fair. This font is a standard design used for fair grounds and conjures images of candy floss and fun games. Using a typical font can help to reinforce an idea.

The Old Macdonald’s Farm leaflet used a simple serif font to represent an old style but retains a childlike quality due to the wobble found in the letters therefore reaching out to it’s intended audience.

Some of the other fonts used seemed crudely designed with bold fonts for the header. It seems like little thought was put into the typographic design.
